Considering the serious inter cult clash between two rival cult groups that threw Ubeji, Egbokodo, Ifie, Aja-Etan, Ekeren and Ijaghala communities into fear and serious insecure state, the INYC who earlier met with the youths Executives of the communities, the Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, Air Force and Director General Delta State Security Service to look at how to end Inter-cult clashes in Itsekiri areas.
The council after careful analysis of the issue have opted to revitalize the abandoned and dilapidated Ubeji Police Station, the Council have visited the above stated station to do need assessment.
Speaking at the abandoned Ubeji police station the President of the INYC Comr. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro said they are there to ascertain what the need of the station is, to bring it to operation. He went further to state that based on their findings they have found that the station needs to be refurbished and the police commissioner need to post police there to make it fully operational, hence the INYC have set up two committees to get this done within the shortest possible time.
He went further to state that it is necessary because in this their tenure they can't afford to loose any Itsekiri to inter cult clash or any other reason because all Itsekiris are important to the tribe. He warned all those involve in the crisis to desist from such, wondering what any Itsekiri son will gain by joining nonetribes to attack, injure or kill fellow Itsekiris in the name of inter-cult clash. He enjoined them to remember that Itsekiri is our greatest cult hence all our allegiance must be to our tribe first before anything else. He went on to state that while he was in the university he can vividly remember that all Itsekiris in various group always protect one another from attack from their group because their allegiance was to the tribe before their group.
He stated that they have been in talks with leaders of some groups relevant to stop the crisis and thus far it is yielding result, as most Itsekiri youths have now seen that their allegiance should be to Itsekiri first before any cult group.
Outside the fact that this police Station will provide security to these our communities, it is also important considering the fact that these are some of the milestones considered for LGA creation.
The rehabilitation/Equipping committee led by the third Vice President of the INYC Comr. Rennet Yemiete is to liaise with Itsekiri representatives in DESDOPADEC Board (Victor Wood, Ebosa and Chief Thomas), Itsekiri representatives in Delta State Executive Council and House of Assembly as well as the Warri South LGA Chairman to immediately fix the station to an habitable state that will be conducive for police men to be posted to.
The other Committee is the Police drafting Committee led by the INYC 1st Vice President, Comr. Utieyin Godwin. Their duty is to liaise with the Director General of the Delta State Security Service to get the Commissioner of police to post police men to the station.
