Two prominent Niger Delta activists and Itsekiri rights’ crusaders, Chief Ayirimi Emami and Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor have emerged the 2016 Most Dedicated Chiefs to Itsekiri course in the male and female categories respectively, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.
The award christened ‘Itsekiri Champions Award, ICA, 2016’ was organized by The Foundation For Development and Community Engagement, FDCE in conjunction with the Itsekiri Advancement and Heritage Group, IAHG.
Our Correspondents report that while Koko defeated Ugborodo, Omadino, Ugbuwangue and Ugbori to win 2016 most peaceful community in Warri Kingdom, Hon. Daniel Mayuku and Engr. Victor Wood polled superior votes to defeat others in the Most Outstanding Political Office Holder and Political Appiontee respectively.
The award ceremony which held Friday December 30 in Warri, Delta State and was largely ignored by most of the awardees, especially the political class, also witnessed the presentation of awards to Outstanding Itsekiri Youths such as Alero Tenuma, Ofe Nene, Adrian Edema and Mrs. Tos Kukune, for their contributions toward the development of Itsekiri Nation, both “on ground and in the social media”.
Chief E.A. Temile was voted the most Outstanding Chief Executive Officer in Itsekiri land, while fallen heroes award was given to late Chief Nana Olomu (ancient) and Ogodobiri (contemporary).
In a keynote address, Chairperson of the ceremony, Engr. Jemine Olare, explained that the process leading to winners of the various categories was “not a process which exchanges awards for cash”, stressing that “it is not a process whose outcome is determined by the organizers”, but “completely public driven”.
According to Engr. Olare, the process is built around Information Technology and “can easily be improved with lessons learnt through monitoring and evaluation.”

Speakers for the organizers, Mrs.Tsaye Mene of FDCE, Daibo Ewareme of IAHG and Barr. Robinson Ariyo, spoke succintly on how the voting pattern took place on the social media with 117 uncensored participants.
Barr. Ariyo stressed that no money was taken from anyone, including the nominees, adding that the organizers contributed their meagre resources because it became imperative that “any society that does not have a system for reward and purnishment is in comatose”.

Renowned Academic and Itsekiri Leader, Dr. Jackson Ireyeforju who spoke in an opening remark, enjoined the organizers not to be deterred by the turn-out, but strive towards avoiding a situation where they will become fractured like some Itsekiri groups.
He admonished Itsekiris not to follow money, because it will destroy them, but “people should be told when they do something wrong”
